6 Powerful Blog Monetization Tips For Creative Entrepreneurs
- Link your physical products within your blog post – the new school way
I’m ashamed to say I really was late to discover the embed sales button option that Shopify offers to store owners. Silly, SILLY me.
Previously, I’d only been linking from my blog content back to my product sales pages using hyperlinks. The old school way.
But Shopify has created this nifty bit of Shortcode that lets you link a visible preview of your products directly in your blog post.
And depending on how you set the widget up, you can pretty much make the sale directly within your post.
Watch short video clips to see how it looks.
Here’s where this gets really cool though.
Well, you may not have considered adding physical products into the mix, especially if you don’t want to set up a whole new website in order to do so.
The great thing is, with Shopify you don’t even need to set up a full store if you don’t want to.
You can sign up for the Shopify’s cheapest plan, and get the ability to have powerful ecommerce functionality directly within your blog and on social media – without a storefront.
- Add Affiliate marketing into the mix
You may not have considering adding affiliating marketing into the mix as a suitable blog monetization tips for your online boutique.
But it may surprise you to discover there are brands in pretty much every niche imaginable who offer affiliate programs.
And if you’re writing very niche specific content designed to inform, educate and inspire your blog readers, which you should be. Then it’s highly likely you’ll be able to find a complementary vendor that you can promote directly on your online boutique blog.
Check out just how easy it is.
Once you’re really in the groove with affiliate marketing, you can take this monetization strategy a step further and start linking to your affiliate partner products directly within the emails that you send to your mailing list.
Hands down, affiliating marketing has fast become one of my favourite blog monetizations tips, and Sharesale is my favourite affiliate network.
They’ve been in the business for years, and although the interface could do with a bit of modernizing it’s still a great way to find products that you may want to promote to your audience.
There are a lot of affiliate marketplaces out there all offering a crazy amount of opportunities to help you monetize your blog.
But it’s important to understand that many of the popular affiliate networks have really strict requirements before they allow you to join them.
That’s why it’s important to decide when to monetize your blog, as some networks will block you from reapplying for a certain period of time if you’re not approved initially.

- Create killer digital products and downloads once – sell over and over and over and over and over again
Again, I was a little late to the party when it came to adding digital products as an additional income stream to my online business. Someone send me these memos on time – PLEASE.
But you’ll see below, I got there in the end.
Now, by no means are these numbers to brag about – for many this would be chump change.
But for me?
Well this additional revenue stream gives me little more piece of mind, that should there be a shift in my other income streams, for any reason, I have a nice stream of passive income already established.
Once my system for generating these digital sales is set up, the great thing is it takes really very little time to manage. And over the years I’ve seen this revenue begin to grow organically.
I teach this system in my Blog Your Brand BluePrint. But first, check out the Blog Your Brand Free Report where I outline my strategy.
Lovin’ these blog monetization tips? Good… ‘cos there’s more
- Get paid for your professional Services – handsomely, in some cases.
Depending on what you’re selling and your areas of professional expertise, it may be a natural fit to include professional services to your income stream.
Here are a few examples from my client list where it’s been a good fit:
- Client A sells graphic art all hand-drawn – she also sell graphic design services
- Client B sells kimonos – she also sells customised handmade orders for bridal parties
- Client C sells capsule wardrobes for professional women – she also sells professional styling and wardrobe management services.
It’s really a personal decision whether personal services are a great way to monetize your blog.
But when you check out this income report from power bloger and Etsy Seller, Pauline Carrera, you’ll notice she’s actually making more money from affiliate marketing and her professional services, than she is from sales of her products on her store.
I doubt she’s mad at it though.

- Recurring revenue Memberships site – the money shot if you can get it right
Just like adding personal services to your business model is not a decision to be taken lightly – despite how profitable it is.
The same can be said for adding a private group or private membership site.
I know, because I’ve done both and failed miserably.
Both of these channels did generate revenue, but in the end they cost me more in time and stress.
This meant when it came to cheques and balances, it just wasn’t a worthwhile way to monetize my blog. So I canned ’em
That doesn’t mean a membership can’t be successful though.
Far from it.
My friends Jill and Josh have just closed their membership site – while it was making silly money each year – because they wanted to start a new business more aligned with where they are now.
And surprise, surprise, their million dollar membership site business started off life purely as a blog.
In fact, it never even had a traditional ecommerce store.
That takes me to the last of my blog monetization tips – at least for this article.
- Accept sponsored posts – or maybe not
Truth be told, I do very, very few of these – despite getting requests to do them weekly.
A sponsored post is where another brand and business will pay you either to create an original piece of content for them, or to place a piece of pre-written content on your website.
And while their are many people who are doing cracking business with sponsored content – especially those in the travel, beauty, fashion and lifestyle space – alas that’s not really the case for me.
For every good offer I get, I get four doozies like the one I share below.
The reality is, sponsored posts are not just about brands wanting to get in front of your audience.
They’re also about them wanting a valuable backlink to their website, from a quality website.
Nothing wrong with that, I’m all for link building using sponsored content. But please, please, please, at least make the offer relevant.
